What is the new Award?
A: The Award is a practical, relevant and up to the minute
introduction to the world of work and business. Delivered by
leading professionals from the business community it is designed
to supplement the A level Business Studies and BTEC National
qualifications and equip their aspiring business student with the
fundamental tools to achieve in business.
Q:
What does the new Award involve?
A: The Award involves two
types of learning in addition to 6th form course work. Class based
tutorials between and after standard curriculum lessons and
structured internships at leading businesses in London during
holiday time. The Award is designed to recreate the world of work
as a complete contrast to normal school life.
Q:
Why is it needed?
A: The Award is to help prepare the
prospective business student for the world of work. It will cover
areas not covered by the standard business curriculum. It will
give the business student an edge over their peers when they start
their business careers or apply for a university place. It
provides the business student with a survival kit for success in
business.
Q:
When will it be available?
A: Students making their A level /
BTEC National choices for 2011, will be invited to apply for the
Award. The first Award course will be available, September 2011.

Q:
Who will be eligible to take the new Award?
A: The Business Award is available to all prospective A level / BTEC National students by written
application and is subject to the prevailing 6th form entry criteria – currently minimum 5
GCSEs at grade A* to C. Applications will be considered from students taking at least four AS levels / BTEC Nationals
(which must include Business) and who hold GCSE certificates in the three core subjects, Mathematics, English and Science with a minimum grade of B.
Applications will be
judged on their merits and the Award Panel will invite eligible
candidates to attend an interview and short test. A level / BTEC
National choices in themselves will not guarantee a place on the
Award and the Panel’s decision will be final.
Q:
What will the test entail?
A: There will be an IQ test and interview with the Award Panel. NB this will not be a test you can revise for.
Q:
Where will it take place?
A: Class based tutorials will take
place at Overton Grange. Structured internships will take place in
London at the office of the selected internship supplier.
Q:
Who will provide the Internships?
A: The Award is supported by a
diverse network of leading professional companies in London.
Internship suppliers can be found on the Award website. They have
been handpicked and are recognised global brands.
